University of South Florida

Wireless Information

Data Network Management as well as individual departments and colleges provide wireless coverage in nearly all academic buildings and many outdoor areas. You can use 802.11b (Wi-Fi) compatible devices anywhere where service is provided; most locations also support the higher speed 802.11g (AirPort Extreme for Macintosh users) standard, and many newer buildings support 802.11a as well.

The wireless service is provided free of charge to USF students, faculty and staff.

Prerequisites

In order to use the wireless network at the University of South Florida you must:

  1. Have a wireless card in your computer. 802.11b and g standards are supported. Please note that there are significant performance differences between the offerings of different vendors. Typically wireless 802.11g adapters built into laptops have the best performance.
  2. Have a valid USF email account. If you are a student, you can get an email account from University Network Access. If you are faculty, staff, or a visitor, please contact your respective department for an email account.

If you encounter problems, please contact the Academic Computing Help Desk (813.974.1222).
